A crown is a covering or cap shaped like a tooth. It can be used when a single tooth is deeply damaged or is missing. Crowns can act as protective coverings or “caps” for deeply decayed teeth, broken or fractured teeth, teeth that have undergone treatment for a root canal infection, and teeth that have very large fillings.

As the name suggests, a bridge is a dental restoration that can fill the space created by more than one missing tooth in a row. Bridges can be used to fill in the gap created by lost teeth, thereby preventing the nearby natural teeth from moving out of position, restoring your ability to speak and chew with ease, and also helping you maintain the shape of your face by preventing the facial muscles from sagging.

The placement of a crown or bridge normally takes two or more appointments to our practice. Your restoration is custom tailored for you based upon the size, shape and position of the tooth or teeth that are missing or need to be replaced. At your first visit, we will prepare your tooth/teeth to receive your restoration by removing a small part of the enamel. Then, impressions are taken which are sent to a dental laboratory where your restorations are made. We may fit you with temporaries until your custom crown or bridge is ready. At your next visit, we will fit your restoration permanently into your mouth using dental cement.
